What's better than ice cream? FREE ICE CREAM
Yours truly got the following head's up from the Ice Cream Czar:
I happened to see your blog sometime back. Just to let you know, I own the Ben & Jerry’s in Plano and will be building them throughout the Metroplex. Also, although I too am a huge fan of the ice cream, it has crossed political boundaries. I am a Conservative and worked in the first Bush administration in 1990. Feel free to come in my store anytime.
And before I announce it to the press, Free Cone Day is April 25th this year. We will have a lot of celebrity scoopers at my store… noon till 8pm.
Hope to see you there!

So there you have it, Dallas. Free Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream on April 25th!

Free Cone Day @ Ben & Jerry's Tuesday
I certainly don't agree with all the policical bohonkus they represent, but I've got no qualms about taking a free cone from Ben & Jerry's. Tuesday's the big day, y'all. D/FW locations are McKinney (Craig Dr) and Plano (Preston Rd).

Free Ice Cream Day
Via Mikey, tomorrow (4/27) is free ice cream day at your local Ben & Jerry's. Of course, if you live here in Texas, there are no B&Js, because - as we all know - this is Blue Bell country. (Off topic, what a great picture on the Blue Bell Homepage!)
Which reminds me…it's about time I started reviving Ice Cream Talk.

Presto-chango!
And —just like that– I've uploaded the new 2004 blog and (as an added bonus) the new 2004 skin. The traditional ("Hello my name is…") skin will always be available, but you may just want to play around with them a little.
While I'm in the process of converting some things, there's no telling how messed up things may appear. Sorry.

Ice Cream Talk
The highly anticipated return of ice cream talk couldn't have happened at a better time - it is damn hot in Texas.
Today I want to relate to you the following story on why ice cream is so good for you, courtesy of our good friends at Henry's Homemade Ice Cream in Plano, TX. This may be just a pipe dream, but it has convinced me that it's time to run to the store for ice cream!
As we all know, it takes 1 calorie to heat 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius.
Translated into meaningful terms, this means that if you eat a very cold dessert, generally consisting of water, the natural processes which raise the consumed dessert to body temperature during the digestive cycle literally sucks the calories out of the only available source, your body fat.
For example, ice cream served and eaten near 0 degrees C will in a short time be raised to the normal body temperature of 37 degrees C. For each gram of dessert eaten, that process takes approximately 37 calories (from the formula above). If the average portion size is 6oz (168 grams), the operation of thermodynamic law means that 6,216 calories (1 cal./gm/deg. x 37 deg x 168 gms) are extracted from body fat as the ice cream temperature is normalized.
Allowing for the 1,200 latent calories in the ice cream, the net calorie loss is approximately 5,000 calories. Obviously, the more ice cream you eat, the better off you are and the faster you will lose weight - if that's your goal.
Eureka!
Now, assuming that the law of thermodynamics could apply universally, then I have calculated that by drinking very cold beer in a frosted glass that I could eventually turn into Ally McBeal!! Each ounce contains 16 latent calories but extracts 1,036 calories (12,432 calories per can!) in the temperature normalizing process. Thus the net calorie lost per can of beer is 12,240 calories!
I've done it! I've discovered the beer and ice cream diet!! ![]()

Movin' on up
Attention Wheezie and George - you have arrived!
If you're reading this, it means that I have successfully migrated from blog "a" (2001-2003) to blog "b" (2003). I'll probably still have to monkey around with all kinds of crap to make all the archives work. It's all still here and it's all in the same place, so if you can't find it, just hit ye ol' search button over yonder.
Thanks for sticking with me through this. More later.

Soft Serve versus Hand-Dipped
OK. Second installment of ice cream talk and I'm already getting a brain freeze! ![]()
Today's topic: Soft Serve versus Hand-Dipped Ice Cream
In my opinion, there is no real debate…hand-dipped all the way, baby! Soft serve is way too runny and can vary too much in consistency from vendor to vendor. Some of them get it right every time (Dairy Queen) and some of them can't seem to figure it out (just about every where else!)
Hand-dipped ice cream is better because it comes in so many flavors. Soft serve comes in like -what- three flavors? What the heck?! If you want something beyond vanilla, chocolate, or swirl, you're out of luck. When you've got hand-dipped ice cream, the world is your oyster. For all I know, there's even an oyster-flavored ice cream! ![]()
Hand-dipped lends itself to chunks (cookie dough - yummy!) and to the genius of shops like Marble Slap that roll treats into the ice cream. Yes, you can put toppings on soft serve, but it's so watered down to start with that it hardly seem worth it - doesn't it?
So, in conclusion, it's hand-dipped all the way. Please feel free to leave simple, one-word comments because I know that you're all just going to agree with me. ![]()

Ice Cream Cones
It's hot out. I'm hungry. Let's talk ice cream.
I'm gonna make this a recurring theme this summer, so we'll cover lots of topics, but ice cream talk has to start with ice cream cone talk. So, your thoughts and comments are appreciated!
Which do you prefer?

| Standard Cone | Waffle Cone |
Personally, give me the standard cone. Yeah, it taste like Styrofoam. But, it's what God intended. I don't have a better reason. I just don't like waffle cones. The ice cream melts and then you can never get at it way down in the bottom of that thing!
How 'bout you? Standard cone or waffle cone?
