Dallas area lake levels
We've had SO MUCH RAIN this year that I had to look up the Dallas-area lake levels, just to see where everything is at these days.
Lake Grapevine +13 feet (above flooding stage in some areas)
Lake Lewisville +9 feet
Belton Lake +24 feet
Lake Ray Hubbard +1 feet
Lake Worth +2 feet
That's crazy. You take Lake Lewisville, which is 29K+ acres, and you raise that water level NINE FEET. That's a lot of water.
Anyway, I mention all this because — oh yeah — it's raining.

F150 tops American-made list again
Looks like the Ford F-150 was the top-selling car/truck made in the USA, again. So, not only is the F150 the best selling car/truck, but it's also the most "American Made" - parts, manufacturing, etc.
The Kentucky-made Camry knocked the Chevy Silverado to number three this year.

Vrroom, vroom
Looks like Friday is "Drive Your Corvette to Work" day in honor of the Vette's June 30 birthday. I hope you know who takes his out for a spin. Looks like the weather might even let him open the roof a little. ![]()

MacGourmet - the perfect app for any kitchen!
I want to give a big shout out to Michael and his great MacGourmet app for Mac. I know a lot of you have probably used MacGourmet to keep track of your recipes, shopping lists, and wine notes for a while. If so, you know what a powerful tool it truly is. (If not, what are you waiting for?!)
In the newest version, MacGourmet supports importing recipes from all the best recipe websites, like AllRecipes.com, Epicurious.com, Yahoo! Food, FoodNetwork.com and more. You can even do web-text clipping for recipes that might be on your friend's blog!
And exporting - yeah, it's got that. Send recipes to your blog or to your friends using Windows-based recipe programs. Even better, it will export to your iPod - which can be really handy for your shopping lists!
MacGourmet also has Smart Searches (a la iTunes) which automatically update as you add/edit information. So, a smart search for "spinach" will always have all your dishes with spinach, and so on.
Another great feature is menu-scaling. So, that recipe you love for the two of you can now feed a party of twelve!
One thing that hasn't changed? The service. I had some trouble last night with Merrin's install and Michael personally helped get things squared away in less than an hour. WOW!
So… quit stalling and start installing!

Uh-oh. Global cool down coming.
Via Pete the Crab Whisperer, scientists researching the effect of sun spots on global temperatures are forecasting a global cooling - yet another phase that the Earth's climate continually undergoes.
In particular, we see marine productivity cycles that match well with the sun's 75-90-year "Gleissberg Cycle," the 200-500-year "Suess Cycle" and the 1,100-1,500-year "Bond Cycle." The strength of these cycles is seen to vary over time, fading in and out over the millennia. The variation in the sun's brightness over these longer cycles may be many times greater in magnitude than that measured over the short Schwabe cycle and so are seen to impact marine productivity even more significantly.
Our finding of a direct correlation between variations in the brightness of the sun and earthly climate indicators (called "proxies") is not unique. Hundreds of other studies, using proxies from tree rings in Russia's Kola Peninsula to water levels of the Nile, show exactly the same thing: The sun appears to drive climate change.
Wow. Who would have thought that the Sun could heat and cool the Earth?!
Another interesting factoid from the article - your gas-guzzling SUVs were more damaging to the Earth 6,000 years ago.
The only constant about climate is change; it changes continually and, at times, quite rapidly. Many times in the past, temperatures were far higher than today, and occasionally, temperatures were colder. As recently as 6,000 years ago, it was about 3C warmer than now. Ten thousand years ago, while the world was coming out of the thou-sand-year-long "Younger Dryas" cold episode, temperatures rose as much as 6C in a decade — 100 times faster than the past century's 0.6C warming that has so upset environmentalists.
I'm all for living in and leaving a cleaner world for our childrens' children, but excuse me if I'm not buying whatever Al Gore is selling these days. (Except that internet thing - that… was… AWESOME!)

Something sexy about the rain
We went with Josh and Camille to see Kenny Chesney in concert tonight at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. We all got drenched during the opening acts (Taylor Swift and Sugarland) but made our way to the Platinum Club and our press box seats in plenty of time to see most of Sugarland and all of Chesney's two plus hour performance.
This was my first time to see him in concert and it was an awesome, AWESOME show.
