Happy Seventh
After 13 years together, our seventh wedding anniversary doesn't seem like a big thing to celebrate. For me, it's more the waking up every morning next to her that always seems like something special.

What is an RSS reader?
I have posted many times about the greatness of Google Reader (and RSS readers, in general); however, I admit that the entire concept of an RSS reader is confusing for almost everyone… until now.

Big storm go boom
We had a pretty nice line of storms roll through last night.
No damage at our place (at least I didn't notice any damage this morning when I left for work), although several homes not far away were hit by tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds. The Morning News says at least a dozen homes were hit. There were reports of 65+ mph wind at the airport, but I don't think it was that strong at our place (about 10 miles north of DFW).
I know we got about 6 inches of rain & watched a lot of lightning, but the wind kinda came & went - dodged one, I guess.

Best Mac experience so far?
In the roughly two years that I've been a Mac user, I've had both good & really good Mac experiences. Today, I had my Macgasm (Is that a word? If not, I'm totally trademarking that!)
I was pretty nervous about leaving my trusty PowerBook G4 for the new hotness MacBook, but — as it turns out — all that time spent worrying was for not naught. (Thanks for the spelchek, schmed
)
When I booted my new MacBook, it asked "Do you want to transfer your user settings and applications from another Mac computer?" (or something like that!) I had been preparing for this moment and — with some offline advice from sports fan & Hokie Josh Crockett — it went flawlessly.
I ran the Setup Assistant, hooked up my 6pin -> 6pin Firewire cable, and 30 minutes or so later, my MacBook started with all my programs, passwords, and preferences were right there.
If you're thinking about a new Mac - just do it. A mac-to-mac upgrade is totally painless.
Everything just worked. It was the quintessential Mac moment.
It was a Macgasm.

Water purification project for Chinese orphanages
Children's advocacy group A Child's Right will be headed to China in May to work with the state run China Center of Adoption Affairs on a project to install water purification systems at nine orphanages.
Once installed, each water system will make 360 gallons of clean water per hour, 24/7/365. With the water system, each orphanage will receive five years worth of spare parts, supplies, and water testing kits.
If you're looking for a great outreach project, please consider A Child's Right's China Water program and their efforts to provide clean water to 3,000+ children.

Hasta Luego, Powerbook. Hola MacBook.
The wife has OK'd a laptop upgrade at Chez Kev, so I'll soon be moving from my PowerBook G4 to a new MacBook. Although I've talked about a new laptop a couple of times, she was the one to suggest it it the other day. Clearly, I have the best wife in the whole world!
So, I'm currently researching OS X to OS X transfers to make sure I can pull everything I need off the PowerBook with as little trouble as possible. If anyone has done such a transfer, I'd appreciate your advice/suggestions, but here's the resources I'm checking out so far.

Little Suzy Homemaker
So my wife - who's been home now for what… 14 months? - has totally raised the bar in the Little Suzy Homemaker contest.
She hemmed the silk drapes for the nursery today. Hemmed. Silk drapes. Yeah, I know. And they look fantastic!!
She's the smartest person I know, cooks like a world-class chef (hello, parmesan & lemon crusted tilapia with barley rice?! Damn!), looks super sexy, AND she hems silk drapes?!?!
Did I marry way over my head or what?! ![]()
