They say it's your birthday

Ah, yes. The thirty-third anniversary of my birth. I think it's safe to say that I'm still growing older but not up. :-)

Spanish-American War? Paid in full

The US Treasury will no longer be collecting the 3% tax on your long distance calls enacted in 1898 to pay for the Spanish-American War. Even better, individuals can file for a refund of all taxes paid since 3/1/03 on this years tax return.

Of course, the Spanish-American War helped bring one Leonard Wood to the American forefront, subject of the F-I-L's latest book. Wood, who was one of the better known figures of his time & nearly became President, helped found the Georgia Tech football team.

Raised Bed

Raised Bed,
originally uploaded by kevindonahue.

A few weeks ago I put in two raised beds to plant vegetables and spices. I can't believe how well they're doing. We've got great looking zuccini, peppers, rosemary, mint, parsley, and cilantro.

When I'm 64

InfoScotland.com has an ageing experiment going on where you upload a current photo and they age you to 65-70 years old. It's a glimpse of what you might look like years from now. I've uploaded mine and I'll post the comparison for you to laugh at your enjoyment.

St John in one word? AMAZING

We're home from St John. We had such a great time and it was hard to leave! We visited St John & the US Virgin Islands and took a catamaran over to the British Virgin Islands. I've uploaded our photo set at Flickr.

A Saturday Matinee

We're off to see "The DaVinci Code" this morning. Although the critics are slamming the film, the bloggers seem to think that it's somewhere between good & really good. I'll trust the bloggers.

Besides, The DaVinci Code has a special place in our lives, since Merrin was involved in the pre-release drafts, edits, and was featured in the NY Times release ad. (Forgot about that, didn't ya?!)

After the movie, we've got to get packing…it's off to the Virgin Islands tomorrow!

How much a gallon?!?!

People are so worked up about the price of gas, but what about the price of some other things?

- Pepto-Bismol is $123.20 a gallon
- Gatorade - 20 oz for $1.59 = $10.17 a gallon
- Scope - 1.5 oz for $0.99 = $84.84 a gallon
- Vick's Nyquil - 6 oz for $8.35 = $178.13 a gallon
- White Out - .7 oz for $1.39 = $254.17 a gallon

So, even though gas in the USA has been as high as $5.87 in the past, I'm just glad the truck doesn't run on White Out!!

I love it when you laugh

My wife has a great laugh. When I hear it, I have to laugh, too.

Yeah me!

According to my physical today, I lost 9.5 pounds since last month's appointment. I think my doc was impressed. I know I am! All credit goes to my wife who's been feeding me dinner on smaller plates (I think they're called salad plates!), helping me cut back on snack-ies, changed some of my favorites to sugar-free varieties and helped me switch from ground sirloin to ground white meat turkey on my tacos!
