Hell's Kitchen

Sounds like Josh enjoyed Hell's Kitchen almost as much as I did. Working in the hospitality industry, I can attest that many chefs are pretty full of themselves. I'm sure some of it is amped up for TV, but - wow! - what a great show!

XXXII

Feliz cumpleaños a mí! I want to say a quick thank you for the emails. I appreciate it. Thank you to my family who never fails to make me feel special regardless of the miles between us. Finally, a big thank you to Merrin. Sweetheart, the presents & favorite dinners are awesome, but those moments when we look at each other & know exactly what the other is thinking - that's a gift that no one else could ever give me. I love you!

Coming soon to Kmart

I was a big fan of the Sears/Kmart merger a year or so ago, if for no other reason than I really (*really*) like Sears. No one has the quality brands that Sears carries, especially their own marquee brands: Kenmore & Craftsman. No one, that is, until now.

Sears will begin selling it's Kenmore brand and Craftsman tools brand at Kmart stores.

A hush falls over the crowd

I never thought I would type this:

I am a Mac owner.

With our birthdays tomorrow & Monday, Merrin & I have both succommed to the dark side - she with her shiny iBook and me with the Powerbook. It's a little to early to rate the transition - I feel like a fish out of water, for sure.

Favorite app so far? Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection. It allows me to control all the XP computers (three) right from my Powerbook. Sweet.

Why do we have the Wright amendment?

Quick history lesson why the Wright amendment restricting the size of commercial aircraft at Dallas' Love Field exists.

Not so long ago, the federal government ordered the cities to end disputes over federal funding for airports by designating a single airport for the region. Dallas & Fort Worth agreed that D/FW should be the region's "official" airport for federal purposes. Both cities agreed to close their airports to passenger service - Meacham in Fort Worth and Love in Dallas. Southwest Airlines sued Dallas and won the right to keep their contracts in place for service from Love. Speaker of the House (and Fort Worth resident) Jim Wright attached the amendment that restricted the number of commercial seats on any aircraft flying outside the Texas region from Love. Since the passage of the Wright amendment, the list of restriction-free flight destinations has grown to include TX, LA, AR, OK, NM, AL, and MS.

What other airports have these restrictions?
Only Ronald Reagan Airport in Washington DC has restrictions similar to Love Field.

How do you feel?
Awww, don't get me started.

Newsweek: America is Dead

The Feb 2nd Newsweek published in Japan. For those folks in Japan, Newseek offers up "America is Dead" with a US flag in the garbage. What did the US cover show? It featured Hilary Swank, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx, with the title "Oscar Confidential".

Perhaps Newsweek makes some valid points in it's criticisms. But since they lack courage of conviction to run the same cover stateside, it hardly seems they're willing to stand up for their story.

More details over at Riding Sun.

Black headlights,

I've never been one who liked custom cars (or even the little custom add-ons, for that matter), but I couldn't resist making one improvement that Ford overlooked.
