Inside the mind of a comment spammer

The Register posts an interview with a comment spammer. He's making seven figures. With all the blogs I read I could probably clear $2mil easy!

MGM Settlement

If you bought an MGM movie DVD between 1998 and 2003, you may have a settlement coming.

How many Bush officials?

Via Hammer & Nail:

Q: How Many Bush Administration Officials Does It Take To Screw In A Light Bulb?

A: None. There is nothing wrong with the light bulb; its conditions are improving every day. Any reports of its lack of incandescence are malicious spin from the liberal media. That light bulb has served honorably and anything you say undermines the lighting effect. Why do you hate freedom?

Regardless of your politics, that's just funny.

Where's the backlash?

I still can't figure out why there's no real blogger backlash against Apple for suing Apple Insider, Power Page, and ThinkSecret. Is suing bloggers for posting about current/future products OK? Is Apple truly above reproach to Apple enthusiasts? Can you imagine the backlash if it were Microsoft?

Invention-itis

Sometimes I get all these ideas for new gadgets that invade my head and will not be quiet until I pay attention to them. (It's a lot like having kids, I guess, without the college funds.) Anywho….

Just when I finally figure out what I'm dreaming up, this sucker shows up & ruins it. Now I gotta go buy one.

Smile

Canon Powershot S1 ISOK, after salivating all through the holiday season, I've taken the plunge. Everything I've read about this little puppy says it's perfect for me: great zoom (10x optical!) with awesome stabilization, lots of options & upgrades, & great price. I'm just a "vacation" photographer, so the 3.2MP should be just right for me!

I'm getting mine from the good folks @ Beach Camera - same as my last camera four years ago! I got a couple extra compact flash cards & a Canon case from Amazon - so watch out if you've got vacation plans with me anytime soon!

A "bullet in the heart of the enemy."

The future of Iraq.

Voter turnout in Iraq is estimated at 72% throughout Iraq, and as high as 95% in some parts of Baghdad. There were insurgent attacks, but there were far fewer than American forces had expected.

In the northeastern town of Baquba, CNN's Jane Arraf found a polling station where a long line of Iraqi voters chanted and clapped their hands in front of the camera.

One voter told Arraf that Sunday's vote was a "bullet in the heart of the enemy."

At first glance, this is a great victory for the people of Iraq. There will still be terrorists, but they will have a government of their own that can fight terrorism with the support of the people.

The biggest winners in all of this? The women of Iraq. Not only are they voting in record numbers, but a huge number of women will be elected to lead in the Iraqi Parliament.

Thanks, Comcast!

Another nice email from Comcast today. They may be the devil incarnate when it comes to television over copper wire, but they are sweet-sweet when it comes to the Internets. Comcast rotor-rooted my bandwidth so I'm getting 4Mbps down & 384Kbps up - at no extra charge. Yahootie!

Nobody is going to Disney World

Don't hold your breath for someone to say, "I'm going to Disney World!" after the Super Bowl, because nobody's going to Disney World. After 19 years, Disney is ending the promotion.

Simple password protected entries for MT

A lot of people I know would love to be able to post a password protected entry now & then. Most of the scripts that enable such posts are hard to implement & even harder to maintain.

Arvind has come up with an elegant php solution that allows you to supply a password for each protected entry - meaning you can use different passwords to give different access to guests. His version is directed at MT 3.x versions, but looks like it would be easy to implement for 2.6+ versions of MovableType.

It's unofficial!

I signed & returned the offer letter for my promotion at work - nice bump in the wallet. The official announcement will likely happen today or tomorrow. :-)

Won't see this on the news

You're not going to see this covered on the news regarding Iraq:

"53.3% said the security is good in their area. 21.7% said that security was average in their area. 25% said that security was bad in their area."

"72.4 % of all of those polled said they would participate in the elections."

75% of Iraqis say the security is good or average. That's a stark contrast to the little that we are shown on TV. And 72% are going to vote?! That would make our 56% turnout look awful.
