Football Prep

Just a few weeks before the kickoff of college football season, so there's lots to do:

  • I've spent the last couple weeks playing & replaying FSU's season on Xbox. Still no word yet on when I get to smack down on Pete or Corey, but NCAA Football 2005 is awesome!

  • Downloaded the new 2004 FSU football schedule wallpaper. There's also an EA Sports ACC wallpaper available. (Yes, the lamer conferences are also represented).
  • Uploaded the fight song and screen saver to my cell phone.
  • Spent the better part of two hours driving between malls looking for a new FSU hat. Let me save you the trouble - I think there's one style available in all of the Metroplex. Zip over to Lids, Bill's, or (my fav) Garnet & Gold if you have similar issues.

Last thing to do is grab a couple new shirts and order some Grippos.

For all the latest on college football, check out Fanblogs.com.

Precisely

Victoria's Secret wants more pink for co-eds. Who am I to stand in their way?! Here's my prediction: Everyone on campus is going to want some pink.

That sneaking Democratic feeling

Is it just me, or do you get the sneaking suspicion that all Democrats would rather see someone other than Kerry on the ticket? The world was ga-ga for Clinton. Then last night, Obama spoke and made the pants of Dems go crazy with thoughts of a future presidential hopeful. It would appear that things are headed for a letdown for Democrats by the time we make it to Kerry's speech.

And while we're at it, can anyone explain to me why Teresa was given any portion of a prime time slot? Other than the fact that she has like a billion dollars and wears the pants in her family? It certainly wasn't for her speaking ability or clarity of thought. Half of the country only realized she finished because the courtesy applause woke them up.

Even more press for Y'all Blog

From Y'all Blog:

Austin's KEYE-CBS 42 is featuring Y'allBlog as a featured link. I'm told the website also got a brief mention during their CBS morning show.

Three major media mentions in two days. I think that borders on the press Fanblogs got when it hit Forbes & MSNBC in the same week. Cool!

Star-Telegram Article

Thanks a million to Aman Batheja for the great article on Dallas Fort Worth blogs, including little 'ol Y'all Blog. The web version of the story (link) has a photo of your's truly, but I haven't seen the print version yet. Hopefully they'll have a Star-Telegram or two over at the resort. Aman highlights a couple good blogs (including Zany Sports Lady who I'm trying to recruit to cross-post @ Y'all Blog!)

My favorite quote from the story is…

"You follow their day-to-day lives and vice versa," Donahue said. "Some of my best friends are from blogging."

That really is the truth. It's hard to explain to the non-blog crowd, but I really feel connected to the people I've met through blogging. I really enjoy reading your comments here and your blogs.

If you're stopping by for the first time, post a comment. Your email never shows up, but I do get an email with your comment so I can reply to you.

And, if you're looking for more on Dallas-Fort Worth, check Y'all Blog!

UPDATE: I'm told from my "source" that the story appears on the front page, below the fold.

UPDATE 2: If you're coming here for the first time, please read the disclaimer link that appears on every page. Everything here is my opinion and mine alone. It's certainly not that of my employer or associates/affiliates/peeps/dogs. Heck, I don't even agree with me most of the time.

AAA Diamond Hotel Standards

Sometimes I get asked just what's the difference between a a three, four, or five diamond hotel. Well, quite a bit actually. While some of the differences are more difficult to manage, there are standards to how AAA ratings are determined.

Personally, I think the AAA standard process is very good, and it changes with the market conditions. As more hotels target "upscale" companies & guests, the upper level diamond designations have become more stringent. I would like to see a "tweener" category created, though, because I've seen some variations from one four-diamond hotel to another. My suggestion would be to slightly relax the five-diamond, make it the "tweener", and then make a "Platinum" or similar designation available for the finest hotels.

This seems too much like work, so I'm off to cut some grass. Wait, that sounds like work, too. Well…you know what I mean.

Bin Laden Email Virus

BEWARE a new email virus (well, technically an old virus in a new wrapper, but…) that is being sent saying that it contains pictures of Osama Bin Laden suicide. If you get this email, delete right away. The virus is a trojan horse that can allow a user to take over Windows systems.

Who even knew?!

OK. So I'm at Lowe's today because duh, it's Saturday I promised Merrin I'd frame the mirror in the guest bath in molding to finish the remodel project. So I'm just browsing the bath collection, getting ideas and whatnot when I spy with my little eye a decorative toilet tank lever that matches all her new fixtures. Who even knew they made these?! (Well, probably my brother, but…whatever.) So now we're flushing in ultra-coordinated style!

Finally Friday

Sorry about the power outage up in the Mound this morning. I guess I was having a little too much fun watching this Bush/Kerry flash piece. A little laugh for both sides of the fences.
