Remove Sasser & Netsky virus

If your computer is infected with some of the most rampant virus strains out there (and some of yours are because we keep getting the emails!), there is a free virus removal tool that can do the job. Download VCleaner.exe from Grisoft and run it in Safe Mode.

Full instructions:

Download the remover vcleaner.exe. Restart your computer in Safe mode and run the remover on the infected computer.

Note: Some viruses can stop the action during the removing process. In this case rename the vcleaner.exe to some different exe file (e.g. something.exe). Restart your computer in Safe mode (recommended) and run the remover on the infected computer

Virus Removal for: I-Worm/Bagle.A-Z, AA-AC, I-Worm/Bugbear.C-D, I-Worm/Netsky.A-Z, AA-AC, I-Worm/Sasser.A-F, PSW.Bispy.A-C

  1. Some people like the virii, there like there little buddies 🙂

Oh and for those that don't know what safe mode is, been you start up you Windows based PC hold down the F8 key to access safe mode.

  2. I ran vcleaner on my laptop which runs windows xp (home edition). I ran it in safe mode as instructed and it cleaned like a demon! However, when I rebooted I got stuck on the log on screen and couldn't go any further. The machine is looking for a password for a user named "owner". Well, this never showed up before and I can't figure out what the password should be. Oh well, I gues it's great to have a clean machine even if you can't use it.

  3. I ran the vcleaner and here is what happened. I got a message saying chkdsk has to be used because vcleaner.exe got corrupted. I also have adaware 6.0 latest version and I ran that too. Also that it says is now corrupted. My taskbar upon reboot no longer shows the tray icons other than zonealram and the avg icon. Like spampal is gone and others. When I reboot on xp with chkdsk scheduled for drive c: which appears to be corrupted, chkdsk never starts up and the system just reboots. AVG did allow outlook express to get an attachment as did zonealarm with the bagel n virus strain which I get in my email two to four times a week from someone or their infected machine. I was surprised that avg which is currently up to date did not quaranteen this virus. I ran Bazooka and there currently is not any other spyware on the machine. I use spyware blaster for browser, which is current too. Housecall by trend micro shows no other viruses on my system at this time. So, here is my question.

What must be done to restore my taskbar so it has all of the missing icons that used to startup at boot time? How can I get chkdsk when rebooting to again, engage the c: drive so that it can fix whatever problems show up?

Also did vcleaner.exe or adaware 6.0 and its plugins corrupt the format in any way or the system folder?

    Thanks for your time.

  4. Foundout what the problem was. ZONEALARM 5.0.

It cost me 5 long distance hours and a cost per incident with microsoft. Zonealarm corrupted my restore point files. A simple install of the file fixed this. It killed my internet access by causing the dial up to become grayed out. After many hours, the MS tech support guy was able to find two folder # 25 and 26 had me delete them and this restored the access. Zonealarm version 5 also causes chkdsk not to start upon restart even though its scheduled to service the c drive on boot up. Zonealarm 5.0 also causes the taskbar to not show many programs that are active whose icons used to appear. When deleting zonealarm 5 from your system. You must physically also remove the zonealarm folder from your system 32 folder in windows and as well deleted the empty zonealarm folder from the registry. Only than can you first do a fresh install of an older version. You must also deinstall zonealarm 5 under safe mode. Otherwise trying to uninstall it, you may get a navy blue screen with the message Bad_Pool_Caller which is horrifying for us novices. I hope you will pass this info on to others so they do not have the same problems I did.

  8. I used the vcleaner.exe to get rid of the PSW. Bispy.E worm. To my joy and amazement it did absolutely nothing, even when i ran it in safe mode and changed its name to something.exe. So I would like to know how the hell to get it off.

  11. I would say download it to a diskette or flash/thumb drive and try running it. Can you still receive files via email? You might be able to email it to yourself.
