First it was Bass Outdoor World in Grapevine. Now Cabela's is bringing it's huge superstore to Fort Worth's Alliance area. The company already has the land under contract and is tidying up a $40 million tax deal with the city and could begin construction by June.
So, other than six million visitors a year (!?!), what does one expect from a Cabala's store? Read on….
You gotta be a bad-ass outdoor shop when you go head to head with Bass Pro and expect six million customers a year. For comparison, fellow Texans, the Alamo has 3 million visitors per year. Cabela's demographics show that visitors average a 200 mile drive just to visit the store.
Here's some highlights from the "typical" store, but rumor has it that everything's bigger in Texas, so just be forwarned.
A soaring, atrium-style interior that bathes the fieldstone and timber interior with natural light. Much of the timber has been recovered from fire-swept forests or salvaged from existing buildings, eliminating the need to cut living trees.
An original, massive bronze sculpture that will be unveiled at the store grand opening.
Three freshwater aquariums totaling 55,000 gallons, which will be stocked with fish native to the area. The walk-through aquarium display will be accompanied by informative and educational kiosks detailing each species.
Dual, sweeping grand staircases leading to a mezzanine and a 250-seat restaurant with park-like seating that overlooks the entire store. Patrons will be able to dine on such wild game as elk, caribou, ostrich and buffalo, as well as more conventional fare. The mezzanine will also feature an art gallery featuring wildlife- and outdoor-themed art.
World-class Gun Library stocked with rare and collectible firearms from around the world. Collectors and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to speak with knowledgeable Product Specialists about sought-after or favorite guns and see some of the finest examples of the gun-makers art.
A state-of-the-art television studio, which will broadcast original programming.
A fun and educational shooting gallery for kids and the young-at-heart to enjoy and learn basic shooting skills in a safe environment.
A full-service fly shop staffed by knowledgeable, experienced associates to provide full service and fine products to novice and experienced fly casters alike.
Cabela's world-famous Bargain Cave – a Cabela's institution – featuring great deals on returned and discontinued merchandise.
Indoor archery range where archers can test and fine-tune their equipment.
Auditorium and education center available for seminars, conferences and conventions.
Available parking for nearly 1,500 cars, 30 RVs and 10 semi-tractor/trailers.
Dog kennels where travelers with pets can let them exercise while they visit the store.
Beautifully landscaped grounds featuring native trees and plants and walking paths.
If everything goes as planned, construction could begin by June with a 2005 opening. Stay tuned.
