Another Friday, Another Friday Five

Questions courtesy of FridayFive.org:

1. What's your favorite piece of clothing that you currently own?
While some people aren't big fans of my hawaiian shirts, I am quite fond of them. I'm only "allowed" to wear them at home and at Jimmy's concerts, so it's quite a treat to break one out now and then.

2. What piece of clothing do you most want to acquire?
OK, what the hell kind of question is this? I'm a guy! The clothing I would most want to acquire is…I don't know! Something clean??

3. What piece of clothing can you not bring yourself to get rid of? Why?
I do own some boxers with holes in 'em. :tongue Why don't I get rid of them? Because no one believes me when they ask what I want for (insert holiday name here) and I say, "Boxers". So, I can't get rid of 'em until I replace 'em. Anyone feel like shopping?

4. What piece of clothing do you look your best in?
My wife is a better judge of this than I am, but I think she would agree with me: I look my best in a suit. (Which is convenient, seeing as how I have to wear them every day!)

5. What has been your biggest fashion accident?
First, I didn't start shopping for myselft until a relatively late age, and I'm not sure who bought it for me, but, do you remember those muscle shirts? Now imagine one with a sorta fish-net/mesh muscle shirt over it. :cry:cry:cry

Who's watching your email?

Think using that HOTMAIL or YAHOO! mail account keeps you safe from prying eyes? Think again says MSNBC. :shock

Now there's a little piece of spyware that can send a copy of every message received & sent from your webmail to your boss, spouse, priest, or (heaven forbid) even your mother-in-law!!

I guess we'll all eventually get back to the old "if you can't say anything nice" mantra that JoJo always says. Of course, I've always had a little trouble with that one! :devil

Two snaps to Robyn for spotting this one!

Polls, schmolls

Well, lloks like my concerns for poll rankings were well founded, as FSU beat a tough little ISU team and still managed to slip 2 points in the polls to teams that HAVEN'T FREAKIN' PLAYED YET. Sheer madness, I tell ya!

Anyway, check out the latest polls here.

Baby arm. Go get your shine box.

FSU 38, Iowa State 31

Five things I think I think about the game:

1) It was all I could do to keep from biting my fingernails during the second half of this one.

2) FSU has to do a much better job of rushing the QB. Iowa State is, at best, a #15 team in the country…at best. But they took FSU to the last play of the game because FSU did not apply defensive pressure on the ISU passing game. I know it's the first game of the year, but we expect the defense to play much more inspired football.

3) QB Chris Rix looked amazing. I still can't get over the fact that he's just a sophomore! He did make one mistake in telegraphing a curl pattern that lead to an interception, but he made great decisions on routes, stepping up and evading the rush.

4) FSU played a very conservative game. This has always been my gripe about playing the extra "classic" game at the beginning of the year — if you're not going to take the gloves off, don't schedule the game. FSU seemed more intent on not showing UVA their game plan for next weekend than they did on winning the game. I understand that you have to be sly sometimes, but in the words of Paul Simon, "You don't need to be coy, Roy."

5) St. Bobby looks fantastic. I guess the alumni must have chewed his *ss something fierce this year, because he looks like he's lost 15 pounds.

I find myself slipping into panic mode early this year in wondering what effect this mediocre performance will have on poll rankings, but it really is the equivalent of a "preseason" game. FSU played well enough to win. They didn't necessarily look like the #3 team in the country, but they didn't try to either.

Next Saturday is FSU v. UVA in Tallahassee. The game is part of an ABC regional triple header, so enjoy if it's in your market. I will not get to watch it on ABC because someone in NY thinks I'd rather watch Missouri lose to heaven knows who. I guess I'll have to bust out the pay-per-view and spend my $10 to watch it. :tongue

Friday Five

Questions courtesy of FridayFive.org:

1. What is your current occupation? Is this what you chose to be doing at this point in your life? Why or why not? I'm a sales manger for the Westin golf resort in Fort Worth. As far whether I "chose to be doing this", well, I'm not sure — but I love my job and really don't want to do anything else. I mean — come on — I work in sales at a Westin golf resort. What more could you want?

2. If time/talent/money were no object, what would your dream occupation be? I don't know. I wouldn't mind being a pro athelete, except for the whole getting hurt thing. So, maybe I'd just be one of those guys that sails around the world all the time. Or, I could always open a marina/night club on the shores of some remote cay in the Bahamas. Or a pro golfer.

3. What did/do your parents do for a living? Has this had any influence on your career choices? My father is an engineer by trade and has been in marketing/sales since I was really young. I'd say that definately had an influence on me. My mom stayed home to raise two sons. That had a strong influence on me as well. So, now I'm a sales manager who likes to be with his family!

4. Have you ever had to choose between having a career and having a family? Not in those exact terms. There are managers I work with who put in 70+ hour weeks and never seem to go home. I still work 55+ hours, but I don't let work intrude on my life once I leave the office for the night or weekend.

5. In your opinion, what is the easiest job in the world? What is the hardest? Why? Effort wise, the easiest job in the world might be the guy who watches the video monitor to make sure people pay at the toll booths. I mean, you just watch the screen and if you miss one or two — the county/city/state/whoever doesn't really care, do they?! The hardest job in the world –without question– is being a mother. You couldn't begin to pay a mother a dollar amount that would be equal to their responsibilities or the impact they have on a child's life.

Have a great weekend, kiddies. Don't forget…FSU plays tomorrow!

Cancel my newspaper subscription

OK. I get the Sunday paper for one reason and only one reason: the Electronics ads. I love to know who sells what and who has the best deal. I mean I would spend an hour or two (literally) reading the Circuit City, Best Buy, Fry's, Ulitmate Electronics, Radio Shack, Office Depot, Office Max, CompUSA, Target, Staples, etc ads.

Well, cull my Sunday morning down to a few minutes, because all of the ads are broken down by product and prive right here at SalesCircular.com. I don't care if you want a wi-fi card or a stackable washer/dryer, it's in there.

Now the only question is, what am I gonna do with an extra two hours on Sunday. Heck, I could always just TiVo some extra football games!

Fearless Predictions

Saw this and thought it was pretty interesting. I wouldn't rely on it if you try to "make a living" with college football, but College Football News offers their Fearless Predictions for every college football game this season.

So what do they predict for the FSU/Iowa State game on Saturday? FSU 40…Iowa State 13.

FSU Glory bound?

Looks like the experts have all returned to the tribe, so to speak. ESPN has just released it's experts' predictions for the 2002 Bowl Championship Series. Almost every "expert" says FSU is heading to the Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship.

ESPN has also started the Power 16 rankings, which are supposed to be the wire-to-wire equivalents of the BCS.

Oh, did I mention that the experts picked FSU as destined for the national title game? What else would you expect of #2?

First game of the season is THIS SATURDAY. Set your TiVo and don't miss a second!!

Can't wait 'till Saturday? The Marching Chiefs have the 2002 music queued up and ready to roll on MP3.

GO NOLES!

PRIVATE MESSAGE TO BROOKE

Dude- You're never gonna get that thing. I know Merrin says it'll just be a day or so, but believe me — you are so screwed. Not that you should be that worried.

I have this friend that works for the Fort Worth "T" bus system and you aren't that far from a bus stop. It's about a mile — mile and a quarter max — walk from your house.

Dude, you should've listened to me all along.

Who loves ya, Gator?! :tongue
