I must be diseased

Here's a little known factoid that applies to both Merrin & me:

We really like boxing.

Now, I don't know if she'll come right out and say it or not. But we've been up late many a nights to see either Showtime's or HBO's premiere boxing matches. Mind you, not nobody vs. tomato can, but good fighters in solid matches — we're there.

The Lewis – Tyson brouhaha is tonight on pay-per-view (PPV). We never watch the PPV fights because they always rebroadcast a week or so later on HBO or Showtime. But, because Lewis is signed to HBO and Tyson is signed to Showtime, a lot of people are saying that the fight will only be re-broadcast on PPV. In fact, the president of HBO was on The Ticket yesterday saying that, while he can't say outright because of "confidentiality clauses" (yeah right, dude), there is no guarantee that HBO or Showtime will ever be permitted to rebroadcast because neither of them own the broadcast rights.

That brings me to my dilemna and my moment of self-evaluation: I must be diseased. I want to buy the PPV so badly, but I am so opposed to paying these goons $60+ to watch the fight. I mean, $60 for a TV program?! But, it's Lewis – Tyson and who knows what's going to happen. I mean, my money would be on Lewis to win (perhaps a knockout or TKO) in the later rounds. At the same time, it's entirely possible that the human freak show Tyson could knock Lewis out in rounds 1-3. Or (even better?) it's possible that Tyson gets frustrated by round 5 and just goes beserk! How could I miss that?!

So, I must be diseased. At the moment, I have resisted temptation. Now I just have to spend the rest of the day trying to hold off the urge to buy the PPV!

Say it with me: "I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can."
